Priorities when getting up in the morning

How your day will progress depends very much on what you do in the morning. There are two factors that we need to examine before making any conclusions in relation to an effective morning ritual.

The first is the time you get up. Early risers are not always the most effective at getting things done as some very accomplished people actually start later in the day. They function better later on and an early start will not bring out the best in them.

The other factor is what you give priority to when you actually get out of bed. Do you eat, shower , make your bed ,exercise, study, drink ,meditate or pray. A key to your motivation is reflected in that first action. If you eat the chances are that eating will be the default focus throughout the day and every day once the habit has been formed

If you exercise you are treating energy, health and fitness as your priority so you will have enough energy to complete the days tasks. If you drink you are probably focused on health as you are aware of a build up of urea during the night and want to be as well as possible. These people also are the ones to take any prescribed medication before they do anything else.

Those that make their bed are geared to efficiency and want the day to have order. They feel that if everything is organised they will get much more done than in chaos

If you shower you are focused on your interactions with others as you want to make a good impression. Most people shower but it is only those that shower before anything else that see their day as meeting people.

People who meditate or pray are those that need to get their mind and spirit in order which helps them cope with the problems of the day. They gain sustenance from getting a higher power to support their activities

People who study are often procrastinators who haven’t done their work the day before and are frightened on losing more time. They often have looming exam and attempt to make up for lost time earlier on a course.

Sorting out the needs of the spouse or children can also indicate how important family is to your life.

Pay particular attention to your first action of the day. It will tell a lot about your priorities and if you think you have got it wrong try doing a different first activity and see how that changes your life
