THE VALUE OF FAILURE

In our modern competitive world failure is discouraged. It is seen as a situation to be avoided at all costs. Our ego and pride make the idea of failing as a wasted life. Fear of failure produces procrastination and a sense of inadequacy.

In reality failure is one of the best lessons weecan learn as to how we can shape our future. Most learning is gained through failure. As a form of suffering is develops empathy and understanding for other people. It teaches us who we are and how we can be effective members of the community.

People who embrace failure are ofter more rounded providing the continue to strive for future success. Some of the greatest individuals in history have a catalogue of failures behind them. They didn’t give up simply because they embraced rather than run away from failure.

Success to many is externally validated by us comparing ourselves to others and therefore we need to develop a more internal validation process. Our best guide to this is to compare ourselves with our younger selves not to others. Golf is a good example of this . A player might have the best round of their lives yet will lose a competition, If they class themselves as a failure then that achievement will be wasted and potential development hindered in the future.
